Signl: measured WiFi performance mapping for iPhone

What Signl does
Signl's room survey measures download throughput and latency at the point you test in each room, then maps the results across the home. Its separate speed test also measures upload. Signl does not read RSSI or dBm.
Requirements
- An iPhone running iOS 18 or later.
- ARKit support, which every iPhone from the last several years has.
- LiDAR is optional. Supported LiDAR iPhones capture a 3D home with walls and furniture. Other supported iPhones build a flat map during an AR-guided walk.
- Camera permission is needed for AR mapping.
- Location permission is optional for measuring, but lets iOS provide the connected network's SSID/BSSID.
Getting started
- Open Signl and allow camera access for AR mapping. Allow location only if you want the connected network identified automatically.
- Follow the mapping route shown for your iPhone: a LiDAR home capture or the flat walked map.
- Visit each room and stand at the place you want to evaluate for the 12-second test.
- Repeat for the rooms you care about, then compare the measured download and latency results.
Troubleshooting
The network name shows as unknown
iOS gates the current WiFi network's SSID and BSSID behind access conditions that include location authorization. Grant location in Settings → Signl → Location and restart the scan. Signl uses the permission to identify the network; it does not provide Signl with RSSI or dBm. See the privacy policy.
The floor is not detected
ARKit needs light and texture to lock onto a surface. Try turning more lights on, hold the iPhone roughly 1.5 m above the floor at a downward angle, and move it slowly from side to side. Plain, glossy or very dark floors take longer.
Speed readings fail or show as zero
Signl measures throughput against Cloudflare's public speed endpoint. A VPN, a corporate proxy or a captive portal (the sign-in page on hotel and café WiFi) can block it. Disconnect the VPN or finish signing in to the network, then scan again. A failed request is not replaced with a signal strength estimate; the missing performance reading stays missing.
The scan drifts or the heatmap sits in the wrong place
AR tracking drifts if the camera loses sight of the floor. Keep the floor in frame while you walk, avoid covering the lens, and avoid walking backwards quickly. If it drifts badly, start a new scan.
Reporting a bug
Email us with your iPhone model, your iOS version, and what you were doing when it went wrong. A screenshot or screen recording helps enormously.
